Social image checker

A free social image checker that scores your share file against every platform in our size data — Facebook, X, LinkedIn, WhatsApp and the rest — without uploading anything. The image never leaves the browser.

Drop a PNG, JPG, WebP or GIF — or click to choose

100% client-side. The image never leaves your browser. We read width, height, aspect ratio, file size and format, then score every platform from our size data.

How to

How to check a social image

  1. Step 1

    Drop or choose an image

PNG, JPG, WebP or GIF. Everything runs locally — we never upload the file. Huge images are downscaled only for the crop preview canvases so the UI stays responsive.

  2. Step 2

    Read the facts

Width, height, aspect ratio, file size and format appear first. Those measurements feed the platform table; they are not a vendor “score.”

  3. Step 3

Review pass / warn / fail

Each row uses our platforms data: recommended pixels, aspect label, minimums and file-size guidance. Status labels are copied from that source — Recommended is not Verified.

  4. Step 4

    Fix or crop

Fix this opens the Image Resizer with that platform’s preset. Crop previews show common ratios with an optional safe-area overlay; exports are re-encoded on a canvas so EXIF is stripped.

Results

What each result means

Pass — the file sits inside recommended pixels, aspect, file size and format guidance for that row. Warn — soft issues such as a slightly small canvas, a file over a recommended KB target, or WebP/GIF where PNG/JPG is safer.Fail — a hard miss: under an absolute minimum, a badly wrong ratio, or over a practical ceiling (for example WhatsApp’s ~600 KB guidance).

Status text under each platform name is taken from our platforms table. Rows labelled Recommended are not claimed as verified against official docs. For pixel tables and notes, open thesocial media image sizeshub,OG image size, and theWhatsApp preview sizepage.

Privacy

Client-side only

Decoding uses the browser’s image APIs. Crop previews draw on canvas; exports calltoBlob, which re-encodes pixels and strips EXIF. Preview bitmaps are capped at a maximum edge so multi-megapixel camera files do not freeze the tab. Nothing is sent to SocialImageKit servers for this tool.

After you resize, host the file at a stable https URL and verify the live page with theLink Preview Checker. If a card stays blank, readog:image not showingand the Facebook / LinkedIn cache guides.

Frequently asked questions

Short answers about client-side checks, verdicts and Fix this links.

Does this tool upload my image?

No. The social image checker is 100% client-side. Decoding, scoring and crop previews run in your browser — the image never leaves your device.

What do Pass, Warn and Fail mean?

Pass means dimensions, ratio, file size and format sit inside our guidance for that platform. Warn means something is soft-off (for example slightly small, over a recommended KB target, or WebP for og:image). Fail means a hard miss such as under an absolute minimum, far-off ratio, or over a documented ceiling.

Why do some rows say Recommended instead of Verified?

We reuse each platform’s statusLabel from our platforms data. Only rows marked verified against official docs use that wording. Recommended rows are practical Open Graph guidance — we do not claim they are verified.

What does Fix this do?

It opens the Image Resizer with ?preset= set to that platform id so the matching width, height and KB target are selected. Existing resizer behaviour is unchanged when the query is absent.

Is WebP OK for og:image?

PNG or JPG is the safe default. WebP can work in some crawlers but is inconsistent, so the checker warns on WebP for most share surfaces.
