Pitfalls

Top mistakes

  • Relative og:image

Bots need a full https URL, not /og.png.

    Fix guide

  • Client-only tags

Injecting meta after load is invisible to most crawlers.

    Link Preview Checker

  • Heavy WhatsApp files

Aim 200-400 KB (practical max ~600 KB) so chat previews keep the image.

    WhatsApp size

  • Wrong ratio

Prefer ~1.91:1 for link cards unless you target pins.

    Social Image Checker

  • Duplicate tags

One title and one og:image in the first HTML response.

Frequently asked questions

Short answers about OG images, sizes, missing previews and how this free site works.

Which Open Graph tags are required?

Plan for title, meta description, canonical URL, og:title, og:description, og:image (absolute https), og:url, og:type and twitter:card. Site name, locale, image alt and Twitter handle are strongly recommended.

Does X need separate Twitter tags?

X falls back to og:title, og:description and og:image when twitter:* fields are missing, but twitter:card still controls summary vs summary_large_image. Keeping both sets is the safest default.
