Threads image sizes for link previews
Last checked: October 2026.
Recommended sizes for Threads. Based on how these apps render Open Graph images; no official spec is published.
Threads can show a link preview when a post includes a URL. Previews are driven by public Open Graph tags on that URL. Based on how Meta apps render Open Graph images; a Threads-specific pixel contract is not documented here yet. Design at 1200×630 and keep type away from the edges.

| Platform | Image type | Recommended size | Aspect ratio | Min size | Max file size |

How Threads crops your image
Expect a landscape card similar to other Meta link previews. Edge text can disappear on small screens.
Portrait files get cropped for the link card. Prefer 1.91:1 for shared URLs.
Caches can keep an older image after you replace a file at the same path. Prefer a new filename when artwork changes.
Three common Threads mistakes
Reusing a Story-format vertical frame
Stories and link previews are different crops. Export a separate landscape OG image for the URL.
Relative og:image
Use absolute https. Relative paths fail for crawlers.
Tags only after JavaScript
Confirm View Source on the live URL. Client-injected meta tags do not count.
Debugging a stale Threads preview
Confirm the live HTML and image URL, then share the link in a new post. Facebook Sharing Debugger can still catch fetch failures that affect Meta apps.
Use the [link preview checker](/link-preview-checker/) to inspect the first HTML response.
Create a Threads-friendly OG image
Opens the generator with the Threads size preset selected. Image export stays in your browser.
