Based on how these apps render Open Graph images; no official spec is published. Design at 1200×630 with a short headline. Private bots and login walls will not preview for other people.

How Telegram crops your image
Telegram shows a compact landscape card with title and site name. Fine print on a full OG canvas will not survive. Keep the headline inside a safe margin.
Portrait og:image files get cropped. Prefer a landscape 1.91:1 file for URLs you expect people to forward.
Previews are cached. Changing artwork without changing the image path often leaves the old card until the link is pasted again later.
Three common Telegram mistakes
Relative og:image paths
Telegram’s fetcher needs an absolute https image URL that returns 200 without cookies.
Heavy files on slow hosts
Large PNGs can fail quietly on mobile networks. Prefer a compressed JPG or a lighter PNG under a megabyte.
Tags injected only by client JavaScript
If View Source has no og:image, Telegram will not invent one. Emit tags in the first HTML response.
Debugging a blank Telegram preview
Confirm View Source has absolute og:title, og:description and og:image. Open the image URL in a private window. Then paste the page URL in a fresh chat.
Use the [link preview checker](/link-preview-checker/) to see the first HTML response without relying on Telegram’s cache.
