How Bluesky crops your image
Link cards are landscape. Text on the far edges can disappear on phone feeds. Keep the title centered in the safe area.
Square or tall images are cropped toward the middle. Prefer a 1.91:1 canvas for shared URLs.
If you replace an image at the same URL, clients may keep an older card until cache refreshes. Prefer a new path when artwork changes.
Three common Bluesky mistakes
Missing og:image in the first HTML response
Client-side meta tags look fine in DevTools and empty to a fetcher. Put tags in the initial HTML.
Relative image URLs
Use an absolute https URL that returns 200 in a private window.
Expecting in-app post images to equal link cards
Uploading a photo to a Bluesky post is not the same as the card fetched from a website URL.
What to put in the tags
Set og:image, og:title and og:description on the public page. Host a stable PNG or JPG.
Validate with the [link preview checker](/link-preview-checker/) before you share the URL on Bluesky.
